Hi There...
My name is Avika Daya, and I am an Educational Psychologist.

Qualifications: BSc Psych (Wits), BSc Honours (Wits) with distinction, Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Wits), M.Ed Educational Psychology (Wits).
All About Me
My passion for psychology and children began at a young age. Being exposed to a preschool all my life, as my mother was the principal, allowed me to see and hear the needs of children from early on. Having been an anxious child myself left me with both insight and empathy and has been an asset in the therapy space. Growing up in a small Indian community also allows me to be sensitive to clients who are trying to navigate culturally sensitive experiences.
After my undergraduate studies, I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and then went on to teach at a public primary school on the East Rand. This exposed me to classroom challenges faced by both learners and educators and has been important when thinking about practical and achievable recommendations. I then completed my Master’s degree at the University of the Witwatersrand and an internship at a non-profit organisation. This training allows me to use both a psychoanalytic and systemic approach in order to best understand the child and the system in which they are growing up in.
I am also passionate about creating local, culturally sensitive resources for parents and children and have begun by writing and publishing a children’s book titled “Starting School with a Bag Full of Emotions”.
I enjoy working with children, adolescents and young adults and hope to make a difference through play therapy, psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessments.
